Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and you feed him for life. At Habitat for Humanity, we also transform lives - by creating proper homes. A home is more than a safe, secure structure. A proper home is the gateway to improved family health, better schooling for children, the chance to earn extra income.
The need for decent housing is real.
It is projected that by 2005, of the country's projected population of 85.5 million, 55.3 million, or 64.5 percent, will be living in urban areas. Many will lack permanent shelter altogether. Today, it is estimated that there are about 1.408 million informal settler-families all over the country. In Metro Manila alone, the number of informal settlers has reached 726,908 families or 52 % of the total population of the metropolis.
Habitat for Humanity works to provide the solution, a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
