Habitat for Humanity communities in the Philippines support Earth Hour 2010
Posted February 23, 2010
Earth Hour is a “global call to action to every individual, business, school and community to take a stand against climate change.” Held every March, it is marked by switching off lights for an hour, a symbolic act to inspire humanity to mitigate and adapt to climate change. In the Philippines, the effort is led by the WWF, the Department of Energy, Green Army, and the Switch Movement.
Last year's results led to significant power savings in the country. Habitat for Humanity communities in the Philippines participated. For Earth Hour 2010, cities and towns all over the world will switch off their lights for one hour at 8:30 P.M. on 27 March 2010, sending an even stronger message to take action on global warming. The Philippines once again joins over one billion people in more than 6,000 cities, towns, and municipalities worldwide in this symbolic act in response to the environmental realities the world faces today.

Last year, about 8,790 individuals from various Habitat communities joined the event by having their own activities in their respective areas, namely, Baseco “Bagong Buhay Village”, Bahile-Habitat Village in Palawan, FTI Family Townhomes and Pinagsama Village in Taguig, Habitat Ynares Village in Rizal, and communities in Iligan and Daao cities.
